(no subject) [Jan. 15th, 2006|10:11 am]

A white woman, about 50 years old, was seated next to a black man on an airplane.
Obviously disturbed by this, she called the air hostess.
"Madam, what is the matter," the hostess asked.
"You obviously do not see it then?" she responded.
"You placed me next to a black man.
I do not agree to sit next to someone from such a repugnant group. Give me an alternative seat."
"Be calm please," the hostess replied.
"Almost all the places on this flight are taken. I will go to see if another place is available."
The Hostess went away and then came back a few minutes later.
"Madam, just as I thought, there are no other available seats in the economy class. I spoke to the captain and he informed me that there is also no seat in the business class. All the same, we still have one place in the first class."
Before the woman could say anything, the hostess continued,
"It is not usual for our company to permit someone from the economy class to sit in the first class. However, given the circumstances, the captain feels that it would be scandalous to make someone sit next to someone so disgusting."
The hostess then turned to the black man and said,
"Therefore, Sir, if you would like to, please collect your hand luggage, a seat awaits you in first class."
*At that moment, the other passengers who were shocked by what they had just witnessed stood up and applauded.

Winter quotes [Jan. 1st, 2006|04:11 am]

"Winter is an etching, spring a watercolor, summer an oil painting and autumn a mosaic of them all."
-- Stanley Horowitz

"Every winter, When the great sun has turned his face away, The earth goes down into a vale of grief, And fasts, and weeps, and shrouds herself in sables, Leaving her wedding-garlands to decay-- Then leaps in spring to his returning kisses."
-- Charles Kingsley

Perhaps I am a bear, or some hibernating animal underneath, for the instinct to be half asleep all winter is so strong in me."
-- Anne Morrow Lindbergh

"Many of the phenomena of winter are suggestive of an inexpressible tenderness and fragile delicacy. We are accustomed to hear this king described as a rude and boisterous tyrant; but with the gentleness of a lover he adorns the tresses of Summer."
-- Henry David Thoreau

"We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them."
-- Woodrow Wilson

The Rose [Dec. 18th, 2005|10:30 pm]

Rose hip, snow. Sleeping Giant, Dec. 2005.

"When the night has been too lonely
and the road has been too long
and you think that love is only
for the lucky and the strong
Just remember in the winter
far beneath the bitter snows
lies the seed
that with the sun's love
in the spring
becomes the rose "
